Coffee Party?

How lame is that?

I heard about it a few days ago, but honestly thought it was a lame joke. You’d think they could come up with something a little less rip-offy than Coffee Party. But as they say imitation is the ultimate form of flattery right?

Now the NYT is covering it.

It had nearly 40,000 members as of Monday afternoon, but the numbers were growing quickly — about 11,000 people had signed on as fans since the morning…

The slogan is “Wake Up and Stand Up.” The mission statement declares that the federal government is “not the enemy of the people, but the expression of our collective will, and that we must participate in the democratic process in order to address the challenges we face as Americans.”

So let me get this straight, people standing up against excessive taxation and against big government are bad, evil, racists….blah blah blah.

Yet, people that like big government are good?

Anyone who has actually gone to a Tea Party protest can tell you that it is made up of all different groups of people, you’d think the Left would love it, its Diversity at it’s finest!

How much you want to bet the only one’s going to Coffee Parties are the latte liberals that still think Obama is doing a WONDERFUL job? Maybe they can talk about the evils of Corporatism while drinking mass produced coffee at Starbucks! Oh Irony never tasted so good!

Maybe it’s the Left realizing how utterly stupid they have been for all their shit talking about the Tea Parties. Do you think they finally realize how many voters they lost because of their attitude?

Maybe they should call it the Turf Party, cause it smells like AstroTurf to me. Or is it only okay to say that about groups the Dems don’t like? Sorry all this double standard stuff gets me confused sometimes.

I’ think I’ll just stick with my Tea.

Arrgg, I hate latte liberals, those SUV driving, Starbucks drinking, 45 dollar green water bottle selling, hypocrites!

    There, I feel better now : )

This is a class thing. There are the working class liberals, those who serve the poor, those who are well aware that the federal government does not by default simply love the people and bless them with benevolence. Then there are the uber liberals who have never had to rely on government services but who like to pretend they know all about being poor and enjoying the blessings of the federal gov. These are the people who want to fine single mothers working two jobs for using disposable diapers and harming the environment. They want an energy tax to motivate people to conserve without even considering the fact that low income people already have the thermostat turned down to 45 degrees and are living under one light bulb.

That’s okay. Let them have their 8 dollar cup of free trade, organic, swiss water processed, decaf, coffee party. I’ll stick to tea, too.

Ha ha, I swear the double standard here is outrageous. Now wonder why the Times, MSNBC, CNN et al are losing money.

    Bravo, yttik!

This is just straight up co-option masquerading as the next “new thang.” What is the saying? Lipstick on a pig? Yeah, that’s about it.

Great post ZH and well said yttik!

I was just watching a little bit of the news on MSNBC (crazy, I know) and the Dem representative kept calling the Rs the party of “no” over and over again and using the work “obstruct” about a dozen times. The R rep was just chuckling. I think it was yttik who said this is going to backfire on them – big time.

That’s all they have left. Unfortunatly, Obama during his Health Care summit blew that whole line of talking points out the window. Now the Dems really don’t have anything rational to say. That won’t stop the liberal masses from constantly repeating Dem Talking Points, the whole time calling anyone with a differing opinion racist or redneck.
It’s really sad what Obama has done to the Dem party, although in reality they did it to themselves by getting suckered by an empty suit.

Anyone who doesn’t agree that the gov’t is not the enemy of the people right now is no friend of mine. This may be just the push needed to get those late-comers to the real deal — the tea party.

…”gov’t is the enemy of the people..”

That was my first thought Woodhull. If they don’t think the government is the enemy of the people then they can take their “Coffee Party” and shove it.

I too will stick to my tea. Both as a beverage and as a movement. I never did care much for tacky imitators anyway.

I like Arizona Green Tea personally.

I’m a African Rooibos tea gal myself. Try the Celestial Seasonings Safari Spice Red Tea some time. It’s wonderful. (And Celestial Seasonings tea bags have no string or tag so they just go nicely into the compost container. A two-fer, I get to drink the tea I love and feel smug about not adding anything to a landfill at the same time. I do like feeling smug.) ;D
